There´s no getting around the fact that Bush was a two-term winner and his "compassionate conservatism" was a big reason. For example, as much as illegal immigration worries me, it has never been a winning issue for conservatives. Who has ever won running on it? The majority opinion even among many Republicans seems to be: Secure the border, but stuff the deportation talk. It repulses not only hispanics but also many Christians. Bush knew that, like it or not.

ReplyDeleteSeal the boarder (fence, fines on employers hiring illegals..)
deport the nasty ones. (the raping hobos, gang bangers running drugs, etc.)
Then lets talk about what to do next.
