'Chocolate milk? You do love me!'

That's what my 5-year-old daughter, Reagan, said when my wife brought home chocolate milk just a few minutes ago. Thought I'd pass that along as a sort of parenting tip.

The secret to being a good parent is low expectations. If your kids take chocolate milk for granted, you've set their expectations too high. You're never going to get gratitude that way. And without gratitude, there's no happiness.

We've got six kids and only one car, which seats five. This means that our kids consider it a big treat to be allowed to accompany their mom on a shopping trip to Wal-Mart. And if they stop at Taco Bell on the way home, it's like a resort vacation or something.
