'Cringe to the new Thought Police'

Kathy Shaidle links a column by Peter Hitchens:
We are forced to say that we think homosexuality is a good thing, that homosexual couples are equal in all ways to heterosexual married couples. Most emphatically, we are compelled to agree that homosexual couples are just as good at bringing up children as the children's own grandparents. Better, in fact. . . .
We cringe to the new Thought Police, like the subjects of some insane, sex-obsessed Stalinist state, compelled to wave our little rainbow flags as the 'Gay Pride' parade passes by.
Well, I'm certainly not cringing. But of course, when you're unemployed a freelance journalist, there's no risk of being accused of "discrimination," either. Being anti-PC might not be helping my career, but who would want to succeed on the basis of dishonesty? Hitchens is exactly right: Requiring people to endorse falsehood as a condition of employment is Stalinism.

  2. Well actually...

I'm a freelancer too and I'm pretty sure my 'career' (cough) is (light, white bread) toast, given the stuff I blog every day.

I don't care about my never-existed-in-the-first-place reputation or about being called names. Just the whole 'bill paying' part.

But if you're cool, with all those mouths to feed (I just got a husband & a cat...) then maybe I should chill and learn.

Trouble is: being admired for being all 'brave' and stuff don't pay the mortgage.
