What Cool Was, 1977

From the J.C. Penney Summer Catalog in 1977, the year I graduated from Lithia Springs (Ga.) High School:

These kids today don't know anything about being cool -- to say nothing of being "solid." Or "heavy." Or "righteous," "happening" or "far out."

  1. I didn't know Burge was a model. See, that's why I hang out here.

  2. This reminds me of Lileks' Dorcus collection:

  3. OMG! As a child of the dreaded '70s, whenever I see these kind of things I just cringe! It is really amazing that we really dressed like that!

  4. Ah, such pics bring back partially-recovered memories of dressing in appropriate attire for a night at the disco, to subject others to rare bouts of the "white man shuffle." The only pop-culture things good about that era were Donna Summer, Linda Ronstadt, and copius amounts of young women in slit skirts and stiletto heels. And an 18-year drinking age.
