Eight people were in custody Saturday after a crowd of angry protesters broke windows and threw burning torches at UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau's campus residence in protest of fee hikes and budget cuts, authorities said. . . .Just as no sane person would take political advice from Andrew Sullivan, no one should take romantic advice from a hooker who does Democrats:
The crowd, including a man taken into custody in a university protest a day earlier, chanted, "No justice, no peace," and began smashing planters, windows and lights.
Sure, she's made some mistakes. But now Ashley Dupre, the former escort who brought down Gov. Eliot Spitzer, is sharing what she's learned in her new sex, love and relationship column -- exclusively in the New York Post.(Hat-tip: Newsbusters.) Wonder if the New York Post would give me an advice column to balance the Ashley Dupre column? I'd call it, "Shut Up, You Stupid Whore."
Now, if only the Atlantic Monthly would give me a blog to balance Sully . . . well, let the reader imagine what I'd call that.
UPDATE: "Forget effigy . . . just go for straight-up martydom," says one blogger of the angry mob at Berkeley.
Understand that I have nothing against angry mobs, per se. Heck, I nearly got trampled when I was front of the line to buy tickets for Prince's "Purple Rain" tour, so I understand both mobs and anger.
However, it matters very much what you're angry about, and what your mob actually does. University of Alabama fans once burnt Bear Bryant in effigy after the coach benched Joe Namath for the Orange Bowl. That was understandable.
But "no justice, no peace" and attempted arson because of a tuition increase? Where's the Ohio National Guard when we really need them?
What sense does it make to come down so hard on Dupre? She is what she is, but is it her fault that a high-profile media outlet is soliciting her dumb opinion?
ReplyDeleteI would read "Shut Up, You Stupid Whore" every single day for the title alone.
ReplyDeleteIf she's so stupid, how is it she's turned a couple of thousand dollar tricks into a zillion song downloads and a New York Post column?
ReplyDeleteI think she deserves this column. By my standards, the morals shown by all sex columnists are warped. And according to columnist Froma Harrop, prostitutes somewhat like Dupre are everywhere today:
ReplyDeletePaid sex is all around us. It's not just rouged hookers hanging on car doors. It's in private homes -- and even college dormitories. And what about the "understandings" between the trophy wife and her frog tycoon? She has her quid pro quo. For all you know, some variation of sex-for-money could be happening right next door -- or as I found out, closer.

ReplyDeleteWell with Patterico telling the world what a great guy you are, you never know.
You've gotta admit, Seneca the Younger has a pretty good point.
ReplyDeleteThings are definitely out of wack here, Stace, but the primary problem is not with the prostitute that that arrogant, power abusing, scumball political hack Spitzer burned his career over. If people want to read what she has to say, and that ends up keeping us all mindful of what a scuzball, degenerate the dems had operating as AG and then Governor for the state of New York, all the better.

To say nothing of chlamydia, herpes, HPV . . .
So you wouldn't take an STD in a trade for a better opinion gig and a load of money?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. My opinion of mobs resembles yours re the Dupre chick. Although they do offer the potential for the ever popular target rich environment, so there's that going for them.
ReplyDeleteNow, if they'd called the man out and gone at it all High Noon-style, that would have been a whole 'nother thing. :)
