Obama DID support sex-ed for kindergarten

Obama's campaign has accused the McCain campaign of "lying" about the 2003 Illinois state sex-ed law (Senate Bill 99) Obama supported, but Byron York looks at the legislation and reports:
The old law read:
Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades 6 through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention, transmission and spread of AIDS.
Senate Bill 99 struck out grade six, changing it to kindergarten, in addition to making a few other changes in wording. It read:
Each class or course in comprehensive sex education in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV. (Emphasis added.)
So, indeed, the law does what the McCain campaign said, requiring "comprehensive" sex education for kindergartners. Now it is up to Team Obama to answer: Exactly what does a 5-year-old need to know about AIDS prevention?

  2. Obviously, McCain is out of touch. I work w/children from birth to five that live in very low income areas and prevention to avoid needles and other contaminated materials is very important at every age. I do want my 5yr old to know that aids are a very serious disease

  3. What no one seems to mention is that the bill would pave the way for a change in the curriculum that was being taught. The Obama campaign itself referred to SIECUS which does spell out in detail what is considered "age-appropriate", even for children as young as 5. No matter how you vote or how much you despise the other side of the political coin, please check out the rest of the story at the SIECUS link below and read it in its entirety. Is this curriculum only about protecting young children from inappropriate touching? Is some of this information really appropriate for the age group indicated? If it were YOUR child in the Illinois school system, how would you want your Senator to vote?

  4. You're so biased, it's incredible. To say this would be shoddy journalism is at it's best.

If you look at an early clause in the bill, it clearly states "age-appropriate" sex education.

But then again, I highly doubt a biased person such as yourself will even let this comment be read. But hey, prove me wrong.
