ADL denounces Geert Wilders?

This is freaking crazy:
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) strongly condemns remarks made over the last few days at various appearances throughout South Florida by Dutch Parliamentarian Geert Wilders. In his speeches, he claimed that "Islam is not a religion" and "the right to religious freedom should not apply to this totalitarian ideology called Islam." Mr. Wilders also stated that the Koran is a book of hatred, and that Mohammed was both "a pedophile and a warlord."
Evidently, ADL is trying to horn in on CAIR's action. Pam Geller has much more, including a photo of Wilders speaking in a synagogue.

UPDATE: Saudi girl divorced at age 8. Guess the ADL was too busy denouncing Geert Wilders to worry about that.

  1. When a paedophiliac warlord can't be described as a pedophile and a warlord, well, PC bull has morphed the ADL into the Anti-Definition League.

  4. Not a religion? WTF? Is he a moron, or did something get lost in translation? I didn''t see Pam Geller deny he said this, either. If he did not say this, I'd like to know.

Even the mostly fictional worshipers of Cthulu have a religion. Why bother to call it something else?

Islam is a religion. To claim otherwise is just idiotic.

Argue the tenets of faith, the practices, the catechism, the sharia interpretations, the medievalist interpretations of what is--and what is not--meant by jihad, and everything else. Sure it's difficult. It takes courage, intellectual rigor, and the ability to think about framing arguments that will persuade.

Anyone who makes illogical claims as premises and expects folks to line up behind them deserves the reputation that follows. I have little respect for the ADL, and I don't think much of Charles these days, but something like this makes me feel a tiny bit more sympathetic to his position.

  5. I'm sorry but you can't make the case that Islam is not a religion or doesn't deserve the same right to religious freedom that anyone other religion has.

It is true that the ADL has bigger fish to fry, but we shouldn't forget that although Wilders has been treated improperly, particularly in England some of his views on religious freedom is out there.

We should certainly stongly support his right to speak anywhere, and we should support him in opposing Islam's attempt to re-write the rule books in Europe to favor Islam by law or by intimidation.

But banning Islam and removing its rights as a religion? That is a bridge too far.
