How Hoffmania beat Dede-ism

From my American Spectator column today:
Hoffman's conservative campaign effectively doomed the Republican nominee by exposing her liberal voting record in the New York legislature. If Scozzafava was "unable to effectively address many of the charges that have been made about [her] record," that was because the charges were true. After 11 years in Albany, during which she had risen to the rank of minority whip, Scozzafava had amassed a voting record more liberal than many Democratic assembly members. That her policy stances put her at odds with most Republican voters in the largely rural 23rd District was a liability that seems to have been overlooked by the GOP insiders who picked her for the nomination. Once the Hoffman campaign began hammering Scozzafava for her assembly record and positions on national issues, the Conservative Party candidate quickly gained ground against both her and the Democrat, Owens. . . .

  1. This was the Republican Minority Leader? No wonder Republicans are minority in NY. If this is the leadership I shudder

  2. You mean it was actually real issues? Conservative issues like less taxes and smaller government and quaint stuff like that?

    Wow

I just assumed it was a homophobic, war mongering, anti worker, torture loving, gun nut, white supremacist, Christianist fueled witch hunt that drove moderate Dede into the arms of Rahm and New York Democrats, ensuring that conservatives remain a permanent minority party. At least that is what David Brooks and David Frum would like you to believe.

  3. Careful, Hoffman hasn't beat anything yet. But he did a wonderful job staying the course while Conservatives put their foot in the collective asses of the GOP for supporting Dede. So that's a win.

  4. Every time we see the false premise that Republicans are intolerant of "moderates" in the "big tent", we will correct them. Conservatives make up the majority of America. The Republican party welcomes independent conservatives, conservative minorities, and even conservative democrats that are fed up with the likes of Nancy Pelosi acting as their "Nanny", to the expanding tent with open arms. To all of the liberal and progressive RINO spys, like Dede Scozzafava: You can go to the democrat party, where you belong. Dede, thanks for bringing to the National spotlight the fact we have traitors in our ranks. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
