The Undocumented Auntie isn't even one of the 12, 15, 30, whatever million run-of-the-mill Undocumented-Americans who just wander into the country and decide to stay. She's one of the far more select number - half a million or so - who've been served a deportation order. She is, in law, not merely an illegal immigrant but what ICE call a "fugitive alien".
So when John Conyers gets huffy about "leaks", is it even possible to "leak" that someone's a "fugitive"? When regular boring US citizens are fugitives, they get pasted up on Post Office walls and written up in the papers. And, in the event that someone discovers that the guy on the lam is holed up at 27b Elm Street, there's not usually a wave of outrage on the appalling breach of the fugitive's privacy rights.
That she is not an American, and that she is a criminal fugitive in violation of U.S. law -- pay no attention to that, say the Democrats. The fact that her illegal status has been discovered, however -- that's a scandal!
The scandal is that Juan McCain is our standard bearer.
ReplyDeleteThose unauthorized leaks of sensitive government business cannot be condoned, that is, unless they involve information about national security. The public has a right to know how we track terrorists via satellite phone usage or how we secretly monitor the finances of terrorist enablers. The media have to keep us informed about those activities, doncha know. Information about actual people who have been given deportation orders are off-limits.

ReplyDeleteThat Joe the Plumber owes back taxes, that he is not a licensed plumber, that he is in no position to buy the company he works for( congratulations Joe, you're rich!)--the fact that the truth about Joe has been uncovered--that's a scandal!
That is a really bad play. As anti-illegal immigrant as Americans have voiced themselves, any play on this is bad for Obama. I hope they spin and spin and spin on this. The more play, no matter how they do it, the worse for O.
ReplyDeleteIf I thought he would do a commercial on it, I might even add $5 if I was sure it would go to that commercial and that it would be aired. Yeah, I am cheap.
