Pot, Meet Kettle

It requires an astonishing lack of self-awareness for Glenn Greenwald to write stuff like this:
But this is the right-wing movement at its core: its leaders cynically ratchet up fear levels as high as possible to justify whatever they want to do (invade Iraq, torture people, spy on Americans with no warrants) and their adherents (along with plenty of others) become more and more paralyzed by their fears of anything Muslim. . . .
As damaging as the resulting policies has been from the last eight years of constant fear-mongering, far worse is what it has done to the American national character, turning much of the citizenry into a weak and easily frightened herd, where the mere mention of the word Terrorist -- or Muslim -- sends people into spasms of fear and blind submission.
And there's much more in that vein. Greenwald and others on the Left, of course, have spent the past eight years engaged in "contant fear-mongering" of their own, except instead of Muslim terrorists, the Left's bogeymen are Republicans.

So far, however, American airliners aren't being hijacked and flown into skyscrapers by Republicans.

  1. Yes, the fear mongering about Bush and the Republicans was pretty blatant and constant. The continuing fear mongering about global warming and the Earth's gonna die and the polar bears are gonna be extinct and the oceans are going to rise crap is pretty obvious too. Tell me something, Al: If there's enough extra water to drown Los Angeles and all the blue states, why do we still have to flush our toilets with thimblefuls? Wouldn't it help a tiny little bit if we stored some of that extra water in really big tanks in our bathrooms? Don't tell me the amount of water taken out of the ocean would be miniscule. You weren't saying it was miniscule when you were making us buy toilets that can't manage to get the shit down the drains first time, every time. That was anothere "Earth in the balance" issue. See Glenn Reynolds on his criteria for believing there's a crisis.

    No.

But they did support a war of aggression the killed hundreds of thousands of human beings and the torture of countless innocent people.

  3. We refuse to validate their sick, twisted world view, which terrifies them. They want us to be ashamed of who we are, because they have rejected us. When we say have fun in lala land, and refuse to submit to their withdrawn affirmation (which would destroy any given liberal) they realize there is nothing they can do save mock us amongst themselves.

They have no power save that which we give them. Ignoring them won't help, they must be made to see their own corruption and emptiness, if only by responding with even greater bile in reply. Kulture Kampf can not end until one side or another loses it's nerve.

Taking the high road only invites contempt.

  4. AJB... wow, well done.

I enjoy how you counter a specific point with a general statement based on liberal hype. Funny. It's almost like you're trying to rachet up some anger towards Republicans based on your own narrow (not to mention misinfromed) ideology. Well, almost like that.

I would hardly count the likes of KSM and AZ as innocent people. If that's what you think of as innocent I am sooo thankful that you're not in charge of anything.

And tell me, what war doesn't have some aggression? Would you count all those "innocent" Islamic extremists' wars against the US and Isreal as "agressive" or simple a misunderstanding? Or is it just any war the US fights?
