Democrats agree to seat Burris?

A Democratic Party crisis averted?
Roland Burris, the man appointed to Barack Obama's Senate seat by embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, will be allowed to take the seat, according to the Associated Press. Spokespersons for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin are denying the report.
Burris showed up in Washington for yesterday's Senate swearing-in session, but was turned down by Senate Democrats who had previously vowed not to seat anyone appointed by Blagojevich. The governor has been charged with effectively trying to sell the seat and hearings are being held in Illinois over impeaching him. Now, however, the Senate Democrats "plan to embrace Roland Burris for President-elect Barack Obama's vacant seat," the AP reports.
Some people haven't gotten the memo, it seems. The Obama transition keeps "chugging down the tracks to Smoothville," as MK Ham said.

UPDATE: "Clean and articulate." Heh.

  1. I love this!
The Right is just getting played like an old video game.
Rush is trying to use this as an example of how the new administration is now on the defense. But at the end of the day, there's another Democrat in the Senate.
And the best part is that the Right-wing kooks spent some time trying to turn this into political hay by supporting Burris! Thanks, douche bags! I'm sure once he is in the Senate you will try to criticize him for being tainted. That will only serve to show the irrelevance and intellectual depravity of the Conservative media. The political ass-whooping continues!

  2. YFE:

A corrupt liberal Democrat appoints an incompetent liberal Democrat to the Senate, and other liberal Democrats refuse to seat him - then backtrack - then backtrack from the backtracking - and this is all somehow indicative of how the right is messed up?

I love people on the left, if only for the unending amusement they provide.

  3. Hey cranky,
the reason you love people on the left is the same reason why I tolerate people on the Right, so we kind of agree on something.
But you seem to have missed my point, which was to point out why Conservative contrarianism is a recipe for Democrat victory.
In the Right's effort to make the new administrations life difficult, the Right is only playing into the hands of the Left. Which delights me to no end because it is indicative of the ineptitude on the Right to get anything done because they are stuck on the stupid political hackery of the last 8 years.
So yes, the Right is messed up. But hey, you also thought Bush was good enough to get elected twice and think the solution to America's problems is a former beauty queen from Alaska.
    Go figure.

    You had a point?

n the Right's effort to make the new administrations life difficult, the Right is only playing into the hands of the Left.

So the corruption, guys stepping down because of ongoing investigations, and intra-party squabbling is really some grand master strategy cooked up by the Democrats to lull the GOP in?

You can't make this stuff up.

I only wish it were more. As it stands, the Marxists will continue to blame every legislative fu they perpetrate on Congressional Republicans.

The Rs should take Barry's lead and vote "Present" on every piece of legislation the Dems present.

  6. Not a grand master strategy, Cranky.
Just simply counter-punching your rickety jabs.
Again, you think I'm somehow supporting all this politicking. I'm not. In fact, your comebacks say more about you and your ilk than they do abut me. It's called projecting and you seem unaware that you are doing so.
I think Burris is an opportunist desperate for the privilege of serving in the Senate. I am loathe of politicians and especially of their ambitions at our expense.
My point( and i do have one) is to point out that the political hackery on the Right, in trying to score points by way of sophistry, just ends up getting their asses handed to them. I must admit that I do enjoy that.
If Conservatives can somehow manage to get their heads out of their asses then the Right could provide the kind of balance necessary for an effective government. But you wouldn't understand that, would you?

Really, how? Or do you have to go down your list of internet cliches before you can respond?

  8. I love it! Ol' Bull Conner, er Harry Reid, sending in the attack dog, AKA the senate sergeant-at-arms, from keeping the duly appointed senate replacement from Illinois from taking his rightful seat. Can we note that Illinois Gov. Blagojevich has not been CONVICTED of any crimes. Foul language, yes, crimes NO! He did what the Illinois constitution gives him the power to do. And, Dirty Harry Reid does not like it. TOO BAD! Now, after the hemming and hawing, Dirty Harry Reid will have no choice but to seat Sen. Burris. You stay classy, Harry!

Pelosi's Politburo isn't interested in "balance", Y4-E. She and her Marxists have all matters well in hand.

For me, "effective government" = doing as little as possible.

    Calvin Coolidge FTW!
