Obama on 'sound science'

"Year after year, decade after decade, we've chosen delay over decisive action. Rigid ideology has overruled sound science. Special interests have overshadowed common sense. Rhetoric has not led to the hard work needed to achieve results."
-- President Obama, overturning Bush-era EPA rules

  1. Decade after decade? Bush was only in office for eight years... and it's been getting COLDER for the last decade, not warmer.

Energy independence sounds all well and good, but will Obama support nuclear power? Or offshore drilling? Natural gas? Nope... because for him "energy independence" is all about increasing the dependence on government.

  2. The "Big Three" are under bankruptcy watch and begging for more bailout money. President Barack Obama thinks this is a good time to appease his environmental base by weighing Detroit down with a new round of environmental regulations. This is a horrible timing and it will severely damage the ability of the "Big Three" to return to profitability. The first increase in CAFE will take place by the 2011 model year. Detroit is now preparing to launch the 2010 model year in July. Read more here. The "Big Three" are sinking and Barack Obama fires a salvo of torpedoes

  3. Yes, watcher, decade after decade - it was not an indictment of the bush years, rather a recognition of the massive amounts of greenhouse gases emitted by us over the past decades. And you seem to be upside down on your geothermal knowledge - try googling "melting ice caps" for a clue.

So what is your suggestion regarding energy independence? Continue to buy oil and fight wars in countries that are out to kill us? You think we can drill our way out of it? How about wind farms, massive solar arrays, safe nuclear plants?

  4. "save taxpayers $2 billion a year by making 75 percent of federal buildings more efficient."

How about saving even more by making 75 percent of federal buildings 100 percent more efficient by shutting them down?

That's change I can believe in.

  5. No, anonymous, you are the one who is upside down... to the extent that there was any warming in the first place, it peaked in 1998. We have been in a cooling phase since then.

Also, there has been more accumulation of ice than there has been melting... though I'm sure deliberately searching only for the phrase "melting ice caps" will turn up plenty of propaganda that doesn't challenge your leftist talking points.

And apparently you did not bother to read the rest of my original comment before typing out your little rant about energy independence... otherwise, you would have noticed that I already mentioned nuclear power. But the question is does Obama support it? He was pushed by the McCain campaign into tepidly supporting the idea, but he has thrown cold water on it every chance he gets.

I also mentioned natural gas, which burns a lot cleaner than gasoline... and yes, we could be drilling for oil here at home. If not in ANWR, then offshore at least. I'm not opposed to wind, solar, tidal, geothermal, etc, but it's silly to think all we need is a government mandate to make our need for gasoline suddenly disappear overnight.

And I'm not sure what the point of this comment was: "Continue to buy oil and fight wars in countries that are out to kill us?"

What does that have to do with oil? If a country wants to kill us, shouldn't we be at war with them anyway?
