In fact, the reason I bolted Bush (41) along with a bunch of others had everything to do with "Read My Lips, No New taxes" and the Scary Looking Gun importation ban and nothing to do with minimum wage.

That was the only time I pulled the lever on "Democrat" for President... Ick.

On Palin, after this election we are watching. The we are the grass roots activists and voters. If the GOP brass allows these attacks to go unchecked it will be remembered.

Palin represents the core of who we are and what we believe. The GOP voter is basically a God, Guns, and Butter voter. We believe in the three boxes of the citizen: Soap, Ballot and Ammo. The continued attacks on Palin invite political hostility from the very base the GOP elite must have in the voting booth. As has been proven in 2006 and 2004, our votes can stay home.

When I punched those chads in Texas back in 1992 the first thought on my mind was the 1989 EO that Bush (41) signed.

Take away MY guns? Damned if you'll get MY vote!

Don't trifle with our Palin. She's like us. She hunts. She cleans her kill. She can drive a pickup and toe it up the hitch. She shops Wal-Mart, just like me.

She cooks moose stew just like, well, I don't know anyone that cooks moose stew... But I know a bunch that kill, dress, cook, and eat venison. Ain't that much difference.

She wants to keep more of her paycheck, just like me. She wants a strong America, just like me. She believes and practices individual Liberty, just like me.

Palin is America to a whole bunch of us. When was the last time a national candidate could say that? And the GOP elite wants to attack THAT?

There are better ways to commit suicide.Steve in TNhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09990498448942991511noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4223398383609158624.post-33204479278792929412008-11-09T22:21:00.000-05:002008-11-09T22:21:00.000-05:00I have been a fan of James Joyner for years, but h...I have been a fan of James Joyner for years, but he also has a debt to the McCain Campaign folks.

He was one of the few bloggers invited to the blog interviews McCain held when his campaign was on the ropes. My guess is that he has some deep ties to those who ran the McCain camp.

As is coming out there was a fissure between Palin and McCain's handlers and James may be influenced by the inside baseball of the campaign staff.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4223398383609158624.post-71245860820410201382008-11-09T21:56:00.000-05:002008-11-09T21:56:00.000-05:00I think many of Palin's defenders see her more as ...I think many of Palin's defenders see her more as a metaphor, (or icon, if you will) than as THE Perfect Candidate for Pres/VP.

At least, I do.

She's a metaphor for normal Americans; not necessarily the brightest, far from the dumbest, sees-a-problem/fixes-the-problem, loves her husband and children, doesn't live for the limelight (etc., etc.)

IOW, attacking Sarah was akin to attacking a LOT of Americans--even the Democrats who live near us.

You make an excellent point, too: most Americans would prefer that foreign affairs remain very foreign. Away from here, from ours, and us. Just 'away' would be fine.

Palin governs as a pragmatic Pubbie, from what I've read. There are partisan (D) folk up there, but normal (D) types love her governance.Dad29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08554276286736923821noreply@blogger.com
